Graffiti

Just a silly little character i painted at Liverpool Zap Graffiti.

Design Work for Evil Eye Bar

I am currently working on a commision for a  new bar which is opening in my city called Evil Eye.
It is a Mexican themed bar that serves beer and burritos, and in keeping with the theme i have been asked to design some mexican style characters which will be used for advertising purposes such as posters, flyers and teeshirts. <----(Click)
They have also requested having some of them painted on the walls within the bar, which im supposed to be doing this week, so that will be fun.

The client had asked for 'Mis Noapaels' / Mexican Day Of The Dead style of illustration, which i am already a big fan of, and so i came up with the idea to do iconic celebreties in this style. Brilliant people, such as Predator and Mr Miyagi, obviously.

OhhDeer - Pillow Fight Competition

I actually wasn't going to blog this.As my lack of confidence in my work, made the thought of blogging that i didn't win in the possible future a blog I'd rather not blog hah, if that makes sense.I only do now as it seems a shame not to link my design to their competition entries gallery, where mine in reflection does look quite pretty.
I heard about this competition through a friend who suggested i enter it.Until that point i had sadly not heard of their website."Sadly" I say, as their designs and products are beautiful and i have since been addicted to looking through their galleries. They focus mainly on an illustrative /abstract /kiche area of illustration which i just love. You you should definitely have a look see yourself.

I decided very quickly on my idea.It isn't really laced with symbolism or metaphors.I wanted to draw a cute scene in pale pastel shades, more than likely involving imagery like teapots, cake, biscuits and sort of vintage kawaii influenced illustration.I honed in slightly on drawings i had created in the past in this style.

Examples :

As I've been messing around with that new app for my tablet called ArtRage i decided to draw in that. All the tools are digital replicas of traditional medias like oils, water colors, pencil, crayon etc.I decided to give my design and extra vintage feel drawing in 'pencil' and later coloring with 'water colors'.I think i used some pastels too actually. The result is a very watery, light and i think dreamy feel to the feel of the picture and how it corresponds to subject matter.
This was the initial drawing...

I left this sketch untouched or looked at for about 2 weeks up until yesterday when i remembered I had started it and thought, shit I've well missed the deadline.Fortunately there's still almost 2 weeks left.So yesterday I tried out some filters and effects on it.(As you can see in my last post) - I really like this as a sketch and for what it is.It would look cute on a card more than a pillow as it was.So I decided after my Weeto's this morning that this was the one...

Personally i think this would make a well cute pillow. But so far there's been some amazing entries, so I guess we'll see what happens.
This is my design on their page too :3

Art Rage

I recently downloaded a new drawing tool for mac called Art Rage. I absolutely love it and have been getting better and better at using it. The great thing about it is that its so simple to use. There are no stupid effects or filters.Just brush tools, and they all sit right in front of you, and with a range of different realistic natural brushes ie marker pens, fine liner, pencil, wax crayon, oils, water colors and seriously a shit load more there's lots of looks you can give your picture to give it some life and soul.
Anyways check the link out for a more in depth review.

Here's a shit load of pictures I've been drawing with it...

Wooden Craft Box

I bought this wooden tool box for £8 at a local shopping center (Lidl) They have selection of brick-a-brack crap down the middle aisle.Which i always enjoy looking through for bits i might be able to make art out of.They actually do really cheap canvases there too.Which I've had before.
Anyway i got this box and decided it would make a great place for my crafty friend to store all her wool, needles, threads, beads crochet hooks and about a million other things that were at the time scattered across her craft desk.I painted this design in acrylic paint and used a black chalk marker (Poska) for the outline.I'm very proud of how it turned out, and my friend seemed to be pleased with it.

Cute Card

This was a birthday card i made for a friend of mine.Mainly pieces of patterned magazine cuttings, paper, and some images cut out of books went into making this collage.I then outlined the shaped cuttings in black chalk marker.

Woodland Critters (Acrylic & Coffee On Canvas)

Woodland Critters
This canvas was painted with coffee and acrylic paint.I particularly like how the paint has reacted with the coffee and dried in blotches. This may not be finished yet, I cannot decide.the painting began to form as i kept leaving it stood up in front of me while i watched TV, so as to occasionally notice it with a fresh mind, and add something more to it.I will probably continue this technique. The colors make me want to add a shiny silver to it somewhere.but I'm not sure where yet,and also im not 100% happy with the 'woodland critters' being so boldly orange.I will just continue to work on it i guess, and see where it takes me.I do really like the vintage feel of this piece though.I used one of my digital drawings as a basic reference. But i did fully intend to make this a lot more colorful and Autumn themed.

I have recently moved into a new place which is very nice but not so good that I have to wait 10 days to get the internet installed.I would usually be spending my time drawing on Iscribble.net and downloading music however the past 4 days have been utter hell.Having no internet really puts into perspective how bored I generally am.Though the one good thing to come out of this boredom was that i have been painting and drawing a lot as appose to digital drawing.I bought 3 canvases and got the acrylics out.The picture above was drawn in black biro and painted with coffee (it smells great). It is not a canvas but a piece of A1 card layered to thicken it up enough to hang on my wall.
