A zine i never ended up finishing

Yeah this was supposed to be one of those DIY style zines, printed on a standard photocopier down the local newsagents. Punk as fuck, indepenadant sketchy little magazine. My initial idea i had was to illustrate a story or a poem or something generic like that. But then i happened to stumble across an article online about short stories, and started to wonder how short the shortest story ever written, was. It turned out that writing 1-2 sentence stories is an actual 'thing', and a true test of a storyteller.
I managed to find a lot of them online, some better than others, and after reading a lot I picked out the ones i thought would be most interesting to put images to. Granted they seemed to just be the creepiest and bleakest of stories, but nevertheless these were the ones i picked, and here are my illustration.

I’m coming to visit you up there buddy. Please open the door.

Her face said enough.

Mommy took me to the zoo. I am still waiting for her to come back.

Ever since he was a boy, he had an undying passion for a woman’s beautiful eyes. Now on his deathbed, he insists that his collection of 300 pairs of eyes be buried with him.

Just a silly little character i painted at Liverpool Zap Graffiti.

Design Work for Evil Eye Bar

I am currently working on a commision for a  new bar which is opening in my city called Evil Eye.
It is a Mexican themed bar that serves beer and burritos, and in keeping with the theme i have been asked to design some mexican style characters which will be used for advertising purposes such as posters, flyers and teeshirts. <----(Click)
They have also requested having some of them painted on the walls within the bar, which im supposed to be doing this week, so that will be fun.

The client had asked for 'Mis Noapaels' / Mexican Day Of The Dead style of illustration, which i am already a big fan of, and so i came up with the idea to do iconic celebreties in this style. Brilliant people, such as Predator and Mr Miyagi, obviously.

Me Loryn And Peggles

Ram Skull

I designed this for a tattoo i want on my shoulder in the Post Modernistic style of Buena Vista (Trash Polka) Tattoo Shop. They're designs are usually digitally drawn and collaged with black and white images, patterns and type font lettering mixed with a splattered paint effect that reflects a lot of modern German/British Street Art.
This was originally hand drawn, which i then scanned into my computer and touched up digitally.

Original Dot-Work Character

After finishing my Flaming June piece i got carried away with dots and tried out all kinds of dotty things, including this original character :)

Flaming June In Dot-work

This is a reproduction of the famous painting "Flaming June" by Sir Frederic Leighton. Which i did entirely in dots, using a Uni-ball fine liner. The original piece is massive and this photo doesn't really do its size justice, i drew it on A2 paper and it took me 2 weeks. I estimate around 3 million dots were dotted in that time, waaaa.

Loryn And Peggy

Here is a banner design i did for my girl friends blog. She is a master of upcycling furniture into stunning new pieces for your retro/vintage homes. She requested something pastel colored and cute incorporating a window with bunting hanging from it.
So i decided to drew a portrait of her and our cute little cat Peggy sitting by a window.

You can see the banner here : http://lorynfortune.wordpress.com/
and while you're there you can take a look at all Loryns lovely upcycle projects.

OhhDeer - Pillow Fight Competition

I actually wasn't going to blog this.As my lack of confidence in my work, made the thought of blogging that i didn't win in the possible future a blog I'd rather not blog hah, if that makes sense.I only do now as it seems a shame not to link my design to their competition entries gallery, where mine in reflection does look quite pretty.
I heard about this competition through a friend who suggested i enter it.Until that point i had sadly not heard of their website."Sadly" I say, as their designs and products are beautiful and i have since been addicted to looking through their galleries. They focus mainly on an illustrative /abstract /kiche area of illustration which i just love. You you should definitely have a look see yourself.

I decided very quickly on my idea.It isn't really laced with symbolism or metaphors.I wanted to draw a cute scene in pale pastel shades, more than likely involving imagery like teapots, cake, biscuits and sort of vintage kawaii influenced illustration.I honed in slightly on drawings i had created in the past in this style.

Examples :

As I've been messing around with that new app for my tablet called ArtRage i decided to draw in that. All the tools are digital replicas of traditional medias like oils, water colors, pencil, crayon etc.I decided to give my design and extra vintage feel drawing in 'pencil' and later coloring with 'water colors'.I think i used some pastels too actually. The result is a very watery, light and i think dreamy feel to the feel of the picture and how it corresponds to subject matter.
This was the initial drawing...

I left this sketch untouched or looked at for about 2 weeks up until yesterday when i remembered I had started it and thought, shit I've well missed the deadline.Fortunately there's still almost 2 weeks left.So yesterday I tried out some filters and effects on it.(As you can see in my last post) - I really like this as a sketch and for what it is.It would look cute on a card more than a pillow as it was.So I decided after my Weeto's this morning that this was the one...

Personally i think this would make a well cute pillow. But so far there's been some amazing entries, so I guess we'll see what happens.
This is my design on their page too :3
